Bob and Dave and Ren
Written and directed by Ben Gansky, Bob and Dave and Ren is a show comprised of elements from Dirty Dancing, phenomenology, and audience interaction. Participants are lead through a loose narrative revolving around the love triangle of three men trying to make a theater piece about Dirty Dancing, phenomenology, and audience interaction. Midway through the spiral of a show within a show within a show, the audience is asked to put on headphones. They are separated into four groups and given a set of instructions to follow through the headphones via fm radio receivers. After twenty minutes of four separate experiences, the audience is gathered once again in the main playing space to witness Bob and Dave and Ren’s conceived performance.
This show made use of fm transmitters and receivers as well as an extensive and complex Qlab stack that organized and choreographed the audience’s actions down to the second.
