The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui

This production used two actors for a script with over 20 characters. By using traditional tactics of fascism, speed, confusion, and misplaced attention, Arturo Ui mimics Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930’s. Our production mirrored those tactics through voice over, puppetry, pre-recorded video, mask, and live-camera.

Set in CMU’s warehouse space, Studio 201, the depth and natural reverb of the venue was used to our advantage. Voices and sounds could emerge and disappear without the audience ever localizing the source. A space filled with challenges for sound became one of my greatest assets in this production.
